Let’s Start with Some Practice
Before we dive into the good stuff, let’s warm up those hands and needles. Think of this like stretching before a workout — except comfier, cuter, and way more fun.
Grab some of the yarn from your kit (just a little, you’ve got enough to spare!), and get familiar with the motions. Try out the stitches you’ll be using in this pattern. This is your time to mess it up, try again, and feel things out — no pressure, no judgement, just you and your new fave hobby.
Bonus: practising now = fewer headaches later (trust us on this one).

ADVENTURE ONE: SCARF
STEP 1:
Using your 15mm needles cast on 8 stitches - the slip knot counts as your first stitch.
💡 Your scarf will grow in width a little as you knit so don't be concerned if after you've cast on the piece doesn't look big enough.
STEP 2:
We knit our scarf in garter stitch. This is where we knit all the stitches every row. Easy!
STEP 3:
Knit in garter stitch until you've used almost all of your yarn. We'll need about a yard of yarn left to cast off.
STEP 4:
Cast off your stitches!
When you've got just one stitch left on your right needle, simply cut your yarn from the ball (leaving about 20cm) and thread it back through your last stitch to secure it.
Use your darning needle to weave the ends from the beginning and end of your scarf back into the knitted fabric and you are finished!
ADVENTURE TWO: BEANIE
STEP 1:
Using your 15mm needles cast on the correct number of stitches - if you're making an adult size then cast on 21 stitches, if it's a kids beanie go with 16 stitches.
💡 Your beanie will grow as you knit so don't be concerned if after you've cast on the piece doesn't look big enough.
STEP 2:
We knit our beanie in garter stitch. This is where we knit all the stitches every row. Easy!
STEP 3:
Knit in garter stitch until you've completed the specified number of rows.
STEP 4:
Cast off your stitches!
When you've got just one stitch left on your right needle, simply cut your yarn from the ball (leaving about 20cm) and thread it back through your last stitch to secure it.
Okay, let's seam our beanie together. You'll use your darning needle and sew your cast on and cast off edges together using one of the techniques in the video below.
The final step is to cinch the top of our beanie closed. We thread our yarn through the loops at the top of the beanie, collecting one loop for every row. Then slowly and gently pull to close the top. Kind of like closing a drawstring bag.
Secure with a knot on the inside of the beanie and voila! Your beanie is done.
ADVENTURE THREE: BANDANA
Okay, so you're feeling adventurous! We love to hear it. This one is the most challenging but fear not, you've got us here to help.
STEP 1:
Make a slip knot and slip it onto your left needle. This counts as your beginning stitch.
STEP 2:
Increase your beginning stitch so you've got 2 stitches now.
STEP 3:
Knit the first stitch like normal, then increase the second stitch so you've got 3 stitches at the end of this row.
STEP 4 & 5:
Repeat this process until your bandana is as wide as you want it to be- every row will increase the width of the bandana by one stitch.
STEP 6:
Awesome job, now stick with us. Before you start your next row you'll cast on another 24 stitches.
Then turn your work and knit those new stitches as well as the rest of the stitches on your needle. This will take you to the second tip of your bandada.
When you get to the second tip you'll cast on 24 more stitches for the second tie. Then turn your work and knit those new stitches. When you get to the end of the tie stop there.
STEP 7:
Cast off all the stitches.
When you've got just one stitch left on your right needle, simply cut your yarn from the ball (leaving about 20cm) and thread it back through your last stitch to secure it.
Epic work! Use your darning needle to weave in the loose ends and you're done!
